"Curious George Flies a Kite" is the 1st half-episode of the 1st episode of Curious George

George wakes up to the strange but intriguing sound made by the wind in the Country house. Excited, George looks around the house for items with which he can play in the wind. He's greeted downstairs by the Man with the Yellow Hat who reminds George that no one is allowed to play with the Yellow Hat.  Outside, George startles Jumpy Squirrel who wants to be left alone arranging nuts.

George displays his climbing skills by quickly retrieving Bill's kite without damaging it.

George daydreams about flying with birds but quickly comes to the realization that a monkey can never fly.  At this time, George meets Bill who's flying a kite. Bill boasts his kite-flying skill shortly before he flies the kite into a tree. George uses his monkey climbing skills & quickly retrieves the kite without damaging it. As a reward, Bill lets George fly the kite.

George's pulled up into the air by Bill's kite, ironically fulfilling George's daydream of flying with birds.

Unfortunately, Bill had to leave so he asks George to wait until he returns.  George, who was supposed to watch the kite for safekeeping, decided to fly the kite without Bill's supervision.  Since George's quite small & light, he couldn't hold the kite in place under windy condition that generates a large aerodynamic force. While chasing the kite, George runs into Mrs. Renkins near the Barn. She erroneously suggests George to tie the kite around his arms to avoid losing the kite again.  As a result, George's pulled away by the wind.

Mr. Quint complains about the boredom of retirement & having seen everything in the Lake.

While flying, George snatches Jumpy Squirrel who turns out to be afraid of height--an unusual trait for a squirrel.  Together, they fly pass Mr. Quint who's angling on the bow of his boat & Mrs. Quint who's knitting astern.

When Bill returns, he realizes that George's drifting in the wind & immediately summons the Man for help. The Man then rescues George & Jumpy Squirrel using his yellow hang glider. Finally, George acquires his own kite, allowing him to fly kite with Bill at the same time.

Optical illusion: George's kite's much smaller & lower than Bill's.

The episode concludes with a funny ending where Bill finds out that George actually used a much smaller kite. The optical illusion made Bill think that George flew the kite as high as Bill did.
